Research Associate: Protein Biochemistry

We are a U.S.-Australian food tech company creating animal-free dairy foods by leveraging precision fermentation technology, starting with cheese. By harnessing the power of microbes instead of animals, we are producing animal-free dairy foods that are indistinguishable from their animal-based predecessors in taste and texture, while delivering better-for-you and more sustainable products.
The Research Associate will directly assist a senior scientist in our Protein Biochemistry and Bioengineering team, and will be an integral part of the Change Foods R&D team in San Jose, CA. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated prior experience in protein biochemistry.
You Will:
· Perform techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology to support our efforts in strain development and recombinant protein production
· Work closely with our Protein Biochemistry and Bioengineering team to advance the mission of our strain development pipeline
· Communicate and organize results for clear interpretation

You Have:
· Bachelor’s Degree (B.S. or B.A. major in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry or chemistry)
· 2 years of hands-on post graduate biochemistry or molecular biology experience or extensive lab experience at school (heavily involved in research project or honor’s thesis work)
· Hands on experience with common lab-support tasks. Examples include preparation of liquid growth media, preparation of solutions, preparation of solid growth media (plates), preparation of chemical reagent stocks, autoclaving, etc.
· Hands on experience with common protein biochemistry techniques. Examples include protein purification via various methodologies, SDS-PAGE, preparative centrifugation, etc.
· Familiarity with common molecular biology techniques. Examples include strain handling (aseptic technique), transformation, PCR, plasmid isolation, molecular cloning, agarose gel electrophoresis, etc.
· Experience maintaining a high-quality laboratory notebook (physical or electronic)
· Exceptional organizational and communication skills
· Passion for sustainability and creating a future food system that is kind to people, animals, and the planet
· U.S. work authorization
