Research Associate: Molecular Biology

We are a U.S.-Australian food tech company creating animal-free dairy foods by leveraging precision fermentation technology, starting with cheese. By harnessing the power of microbes instead of animals, we are producing animal-free dairy foods that are indistinguishable from their animal-based predecessors in taste and texture, while delivering better-for-you and more sustainable products.
The Research Associate will assist our senior scientist and will be a part of Change Foods R&D team in San Jose, CA. The preferred candidate should have basic knowledge of molecular and microbiology and assist in the documentation of SOP (using ELN) and conduct the experiments based on the guidance provided by the senior scientist.
You Will:
· Work closely with our Senior Scientist in protein engineering and biochemistry
· Coordinate and assist in molecular biology techniques like cloning, plasmid isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis like agarose and SDS-PAGE under the guidance
· Prepare copies of the different microbial strains and DNA plasmids
· Assist in keeping track of experiments and able to present the data internally
· Participate in learning an Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) online system (e.g. LabStep) for documenting the experiments and results
You Are:
· A self-starter who can work independently and as a key member of the team
· A problem solver who can improvise and come up with creative solutions
· A fast learner ready to roll up your sleeves and get going with the current phase
You Have:
· BS or MS degree in biological sciences
· Minimum 2 years of hands-on research laboratory skills, including microbial strain propagation, DNA isolation and purification, preparing and sterilising basic chemicals and prepare buffers for the experiments
· Familiarity in using Microsoft office, statistical software, Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) online system, and other tools for molecular biology work
· Passion for sustainability and creating a future food system that is kind to people, animals, and the planet
· Familiarity with California Health and Safety requirements
· U.S. work authorization
